Hi Friends,
I bet you're thinking.... "Where in the world has she been?" well, I had to make a mad dash to finish hat orders, complete holiday gifts, etc. In the wake of all that I had no time to post.
I've missed you Blogland! I wanted to take a minute to run through a few of the projects I just wrapped up.
There was the Princess Leia hat for a dear friend. I saw once made for a baby online and just winged it from there.

The Horse Hat for Roxy's teacher's baby.

And a series of viking hats for the little pillaging cutie pies in our family.

And there's a unicorn lover that has a new hat too.

We also had a lot of fun holiday activities sprinkled in there and many repeats of hats you've seen here so I won't bore you with those.

Now for the fun stuff... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Creative Projects are you planing to dive into this year? I for one am chomping at the bit to get my paints out and start my new series of Disney Paintings. More to come on that subject latter though. And I have a zillion hat designs I've sketched out that need a home on someone's head.. but first I need to wrap up a few of the existing orders.

I'm digging my new Kindle Fire too! That thing is addictive :)

{ A Party } Mad Tea Party Printable Set

Hello Friends,
WE had a Fabulous time at our Mad Mismatched Tea Party. The birthday girl was had a Very Happy Un-Birthday! There was a bowl of cotton candy to toss to you neighbor, pecan swirls, truffles and of course cupcakes in tea cups!
Now I know I told you that I was going to create a beautiful cake inspired by my cousin Heather's book cake. Well, real life hit and I not only didn't make the cake but was out of time and had no cupcakes... What's a girl to do? My BFF Tiffany, the lovely lady in the dazzling hat below was quick on her feet and called our local Walmart. They were happy to make a batch of cupcakes minus the frosting. "No frosting?" you might ask.

Well my sweet girl fell in love with a frosting a friend had recently at her daughters party. It's Kool-Aid Frosting. You simply mix the flavor of Kool-Aid you want into Vanilla icing until it gets to the color you are aiming for. I have to admit... I had no trouble steering clear of those cupcakes, they were way to tart for my taste. But the kids loved them!
So the table and all it's splendid treats... were all straight from a box of Debbie snacks or a bag. This Mom certainly wanted to do a little more with the treats, but I think this shows no matter the time you to dedicate to a party... it can be lovely.

We entertained the kids with coloring sheets from the printable set and a game of one lump or two in which they tossed giant sugar cubes(Styrofoam cubes) into a giant tea cup. I also had a giggle when we sugared them up and then gave them decks of cards with the challenge of building houses of cards with little shaky sugar hands!

{ A Treat and a Trick }

Well Happy Halloween Friends,
We have quite the weekend ahead of us. Friday night soccer and a Halloween Party with sweet neighbors who really know how to have a good time. Then the next morning another soccer game, a Twilight marathon with a Friend who some how went all this time with out knowing the joy of Twilight Saga! I'm gasping people.. really! Then we're off to dunk our youngest! Isabel is being baptized Sunday morning. I'm so tickled. She's very small so I have the feeling she's going to have fun swimming to the other side of the baptismal pool. And we'll tack an extra day onto the weekend though I do work Monday... it's Halloween!!! Woo... Woo.. So we'll have Trunk or Treat at our church along with hayrides, a costume contest, inflatable slides, horse back riding and lots of games and candy. I'm exhausted just thinking of it all. And I can't wait!

{A Party } Mad Te Party Planning

So, this is the weekend of designing Roxy's Mad Tea Party. I must admit it gives me a thrill. The idea of going headlong into the fantastic world of the hatter and his friend Alice is one that has ideas popping like one of those role toys the babies use when they begin to walk.

I know the party set will have tags for drinks and eats, cupcake toppers both large and small, Silhouettes of the characters to be placed in frames about the table. Place cards so that our mad guest can find their seat.... and oodles of other fun things... I do believe a game or paper doll is in order.. Oh... how about a top hat coloring sheet ready to embellish with crayons and markers.

I've been looking at what I have in the kitchen and The GIANT tea cup we got as a gift will have to take center stage as a punch bowl :)
And My hope... though lofty... is to recreate Heather's cake shown below but with Alice and her friends on the page and cards and miniature bottles etc flying above instead of butterflies... but we may end up with cupcakes, because this mom only has so many hours in the day ;)

I'll most likely have the girls bring a favorite tea cup or just set out my miss matched cups. We'll be having cocoa instead of tea... I know my kid and hot tea isn't on her choice menu. And tiny cupcakes and a giant cupcake. tea sandwiches... cucumber of course... and pb & j :) Lot's of fun! I'll keep you posted friends.

Fall Crocheting

Hi Friends,
The leaves are just starting to really turn. Neighbors are setting out their pumpkins. I just love this time of year. There's the little butterflies in your tummy in anticipation of the coming holidays... and WOW at the creative juices! They are a flowing :) So what has my long time between posts been about?
Fist I had to do major spring cleaning... in the fall no less! This was because my bible study meets at my house in the fall. Just me and my favorite peeps... at least my favorite peeps that are within driving distance :) Wish Heather and Elizabeth could make it but they are both a state away.
Anyways... So there's that. Which I can honestly say... I made it through that cleaning time without being hogged tied by a dust bunny! A miracle I tell you.
Then there's my brain... It seems to have a mind of it's own... wait... it's a brain.. that's it's hole mission. I ramble. My brain kind of shifts between different creative mediums. I went years between painting... but then when I do pic up a brush I may do 10 paintings in a month kind of thing. So... I'm feeling the Crochet bug at the moment. And here's what the little crochet fever resulted in.

The owl hat shown here was created from watching a youtube how to video.
After the owl I decided I had to do a monkey for my little one. So I designed my own monkey hat with the skills I learned from the first tutorial. They aren't perfect, but my girls love them :)

Then there's the kitchen... we've been eating lots of Pumpkin Spice Muffins.

My recipe:
1 box Duncan Hines Spice Cake Mix
1 can Libby's Pure Pumpkin

Beat till blended well... it will seem dry at first but after a bit it's had a good texture.
I use a piping bag and pipe them into paper liners mainly for presentation's sake.
Bake according to the time and temperature on the cake box for cupcakes.
Yum... dig in :)

We also have added Soccer to our schedule which my oldest has absolutely fallen in love with.
Last night I worked on the Robot party set which I should have up this week in my store and I'm about to start on My oldest daughter's Mad Tea party set which you'll see soon.

So we've been a bit busy, but who isn't . Right? So long for now sweet friends!

{Seasons} Fall has Arrived

Hi Friends,

We welcomed fall in the most Magical Place on Earth, Walt Disney World. Only Disney can theme a park so well you think you stepped into the movie Halloweentown. Just what I need as an artist to kick off my most creative time of year. Oh if only you could see all the fun ideas rolling around in my head. All good things come to those who wait... so keep checking back to see what I'm up to :)

{Art} In The Studio

Hi Friends,
I can't believe how long it's been since I posted. I've been tucked away knocking out a few paintings in my studio. One painting for a Coca-Cola executive and one for a Bible Scripture Art Challenge. I have a third canvas primed and will start it this week.

The Taj Mahal painting above was commissioned for a little girls birthday. Her family has a tradition of buying the girls in the family art for their birthdays. What a timeless present!

This painting was what God put on my heart for the Scripture Art Challenge. The Scripture the painting was based on is Joshua 1:9.

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9.

Oh, I almost forgot that I participated in an Artist Trading Card Swap, check out my mermaid!

And I've been doing lots of snuggling with my girls.

{ A Recipe } Back to School

Muffins for teachers are baked, backpacks are packed, little girls with butterflies over the first day of school are snug in their bed with all their prayers said. Back to school for the monkeys tomorrow. They got their first mani pedi at a nail salon today to celebrate and push away the blues :)

I usually try to bake the teachers a treat for the first day of school to help them ease back into their routines of minding rooms full of excited kids. This year I was down to the wire and decided to go with my favorite go to in a hurry recipe. I heard it on a podcast, Halfway There. Jessica, the host had no idea what a valuable little recipe she was sharing. My girls and .. well everyone loves it.
SO are you ready for the huge list of ingredients?

Ingredients:
One Can of Pumpkin
1 box of cake mix ( I prefer the yellow cake or butter flavored)

That's it! No eggs.. No oil... nothing!

preheat the oven according to the box
Line the muffin tin with paper liners
Mix the pure pumpkin and the box of cake till you think your arms about to fall off! It's pretty dry at first so it puts up a bit of a fight ;)
Then for tidiness as well as easy to peel away wrappers I put the mix into a piping bag and swirl the mixture into the liners till they are about 2/3 full.

Bake according to your boxes directions for cupcakes.

I normally don't add any icing, but for the teachers I drizzled a little glaze on top that I picked up at the Grocery on clearance.

That's it. The amazing thing is how moist they are. Yum!

Thoughts on Disney

As my girls and I start to feel the thrill of an approaching trip to Disney World I reflect on how many people don't "Get It". The Pell that brings us back to the Kingdom every year. The glee that you see on our faces and the little flicker of sparkle they see in our eyes after returning home. Of course I know we are all different, and different things make each of us happy. But how to explain what it is that makes me and my family so very happy there?

Well it's not really possible to put into words or capture the magic in an explanation. But let me put it like this, every inch of the place is themed and beautified to an unreal degree, the cast members(all of the!) are polite and go out of their way to be helpful and kind, the rides and atmosphere is kept family friendly while still delighting you with heart pumping adventures. When a child drops a Popsicle and someone runs to your aide with a free voucher to replace it... you know the place is different.
Maybe it's the ties to my childhood, maybe it's the constant smile on my children's faces.. and even my husbands face... but this place makes me happy. And since I get made fun of for being too nice... maybe I just feel finally at home :)

Summer is slipping Away

Hi Friends,
I can't believe its the 20th of July. Time has truly slipped by without my noticing. My girls start school in just a week and a half. I'm busy putting the finishing touches on my the first of my 2011 Halloween sets, and just plumb spinning in circles with lots happening at home. I hope you've missed me!
So here's a quick peak at some of what will be in the Witches Damask Printable Party Set. There a few items with this set that are still being designed.

I best get back to designing, but I'll have more details plus a few fun pictures of what we've been up to.

{A Trip and A Little Fall} Pigeon Forge, TN

Hi Sweet Friends,
I just returned from a wonderful stay in the mountains of Tennessee. We were perched in a little cabin smack in the middle of heaven. We were surrounded by art and historic southern homesteads. With all this eye candy my brain is going into over time planning future paintings.
Being in the mountains also sparked that final little flame I needed to kick off my design work for my fall collections.

I spent most of my time hanging out the car window looking through a camera lens and the rest of it snuggled with my kids or picking up rocks out of a creek. The beauty of the area can't truly be captured with a lens, but here's an idea of what we were surrounded by.

Best of all we got to reconnect with family members that we haven't seen in ages.
My cousin Heather of Sprinkle Bakes, was just as sweet as when we were kids. We had a wonderful visit with her and her mother, my Great Aunt Katie. And then as if the visit wasn't already perfect enough... she brought cupcakes! Homemade, absolutely delicious... cupcakes!

So now the difficulty will be picking which painting in my head to get onto a canvas first. Of course there will be lots of party sets to design with fall just around the corner too. It's amazing how a short trip to a special place can set your creativity on fire. What a beautiful planet my heavenly father created for us.

{Art with Kids} Still Life and Father's Day

Hello Friends,
It's been very hot in our area. The kind of hot that makes the thought of going outside an unpleasant thought. These are the days the kids whine that they are board and look to us in hopes of a magic "fun" solution. Those are the perfect days to pull out the watercolors and set up a still life.
Your still Life can be their sand bucket and snorkel on a table or as simple as a piece of fruit on the kitchen table as my daughter and I did in this photo. Notice that my sweet girl even captured the pool of shadow at the base of the pear. This is a great opportunity to talk to your budding artist about light and shadow. Make it even more appealing to the kids by using their action figures or dolls as the subject.

A great way to create a sure to be treasured Father's Day gift would be to set up Dad's tackle box and fishing reel for the little artist to draw or paint from. If Dad's not a fisherman what are his interest? A baseball and glove? Whatever it is, he will be pleased to see that his little one made it with their own precious hands. Then Mommy can grabbed an inexpensive picture frame to complete the gift.

{Party} Pool Party Time

It's that time of year, Pool Party Season.
Check out what a blast we had last year with my mermaid collection.

The Mermaid party was a blast. My lovely little mermaid enjoyed the party and her guest. And... mommy enjoyed seeing every one checking out the decorations! You can buy the printable party favors I designed here. I had a blast creating the marshmallow fondant shells on top of the cupcakes. It's a super easy recipe and then you just sculpt like you would with Play-Dough!

{A Craft Project} A Sign

Hi Friends,

I don't know about you, but I love to freshen up my house with new accents with the change of season... or just because ;) And one of the best things I accidentally discovered was what a nice sign an old drawer front makes.

I was pulling apart an old armoire to use the doors as large canvases, when I noticed the drawers already had a hanging mechanism, the drawer handle!

For this project I used:

• drawer front with handle gesso

• acrylic/craft paint

• my imagination ;)

I covered the back or inside(side without the drawer handle) of the drawer with gesso and then painted what I wanted on it. It was ready for a special spot in my kitchen!

{Holiday Decor} Celebrate America

Once Upon a Time there was a girl who was blessed to live in the most amazing country. A country where with hard work and vision, anyone had the right to pursue their dreams. That girl was me, and I'm proud to say that I'm a hard working American. An American who still believes in the dream. As we draw close to the 4th of July and celebrate those who've sacrificed to allow that freedom and the forefathers with that vision I wanted to share this patriotic printable party set with you. It's the perfect accent to a nice day of grilling out with friends and family.

I also wanted to share the cutest idea for cupcakes at your next cook out. They do a great job of tricking the eye. I found them in the latest issue of a magazine I picked up. I 'm drawing a blank on the what magazine I picked up. That's a sure sign that I need to give my brain a break. But I did find the exact same cupcakes on Martha's website. So go check them out!

Aren't they cute! I could just see these on a table at our next gathering.

Star Spangled and A Painting

Hi Y'all,

I hope you're having a fantastic Holiday weekend. My girls and I spent last night painting. We had a blast. They are my favorite up and coming artists! I wanted to share what I did and show you the newest item in my shop.
So here is the painting I did. I have to tell you my secret to painting and all my art... prayer ;) Now back to the painting it's self. I painted my savior, Jesus. I used a crimson red to represent the sacrifice he made and the gold to show his purity.

Friday night I designed this patriotic printable party set called Celebrate America. It can be customized with Welcome Home instead of Happy 4th. This set would look amazing with a large glass urn of Red punch and some star shaped cookies. I hope to design a paper doll that can be purchase separately. It will be kind of like the Marie Antoinette paper dolls with a touch of Liberty.

{Party} Big Foot

A sweet lady in California is having a Big Foot Party for her little boy. So I put together a quick list of what I think would be great treats to dress the table up with as well as pleasing her little guys tummy!
So the Big Foot Accessories are:

Cookie Cutter I think this would be super cute. Iced in green royal icing and some with chocolate royal icing. They would be great on a plate or topping a cupcake!

Chocolate mold for feet This works great. you just melt chocolate... pour into mold along with lolly pop sticks you can get in the cake/craft /Wilton Section of walmart. You could even do some of them with white chocolate with a little green food color and then have chocolate ones too... it would totally tie the party colors together.

Hard Candy Feet could be in a candy jar on the table or topping a cupcake.

Sour Apple Stinky Feet Gummy candies these would be good on cupcakes... but they are pricey in my opinion.

{Handmade} Cards

Hello,

I hope you all are having a great start to your summer. We are enjoying the hot Georgia sun and lots of community craft fairs. My girls fell in love with the Cotton Pickin' Fair. They got their hair done and mommy got to see lots of inspiring artist, as well as good old southern barns and tractors!You can see a sketch of their hair as well as a photo of them in all their Fair Fabulousness.

I don't know about your side of the world, but here it seems every weekend there's a birthday. Lots of cake and fun for all. When I have time I like to make the birthday star's card. Not only is it frugal, it's a way to tell them they are special.
In this case I designed a card for a sweet friend who is a part of my bible study group and an inspiration to me as a mom. She has it all together and is the Organization Queen!
For Pam's card I purchased black pastel paper and Metallic Derwent Water-soluble Pencils from Michaels. I designed the card to match the gift bag, which is actually a tote. To top the look off I grabbed a super sized clothes pin.

{Sharing Art} Coca-Cola Art

Hi Friends,

Not everyone knows this, but I'm a designer and illustrator at Coca-Cola by day. And my job at Coca-Cola spoils me, I get to see original Coca-Cola Santa paintings during the holidays and even occasionally run into a celebrity in the hall. Let me just say that Malcolm-Jamal Warner (Theo from the Cosby Show) was super nice! He was all grown up when I ran into him a year or so ago. So I want to share some of the amazing stuff I get to see with you, my blogbuddies!
Here's a great example of the Fabulous Collection of Coke Folk Art here in the Corporate office. They're created by artist from around the world. This one seems to be sculpted of leather. It's much more impressive in person.

The sculpture is easily 6 to 7 feet tall.

Notice the super creative use of the can as the train engine.

{DIY CRAFT} Stained Glass

You can create a stained glass that will cling to the windows of your home. Gallery Glass is the perfect answer for a special window that you want to draw attention to.

In this case I'm freehand designing the gallery glass paint on wax paper.

I pre-measured the window to be sure it would fit the window's width.
Free hand draw your design on paper.
Place paper under the wax paper, which you will use as if it were tracing paper.
Now trace over the main “lead” lines of your design on the wax paper.
Once this dries(be sure to follow label fro drying times)
Fill each section of the design with the desired color.
Once dry it simply gets pealed off the wax paper and clings to the playhouse windows!

I designed this fairy themed stained glass for my first daughter’s nursery. I took a picture frame, removed the cardboard back and did the steps above directly onto the picture frame glass. It now let’s light filter into the girls bathroom, while keeping their privacy.

You can also purchase blank lampshades to create a custom lamp with your own unique style.

Plaid makes many other great craft products, but by far Gallery Glass is my favorite. Happy Creating!

{Favorite Things} Mary Janes Farm

Hi Friends,
I can't explain the thrill I get when my favorite magazine is in the mail box. I have to flip through quickly to see what goodies await inside. And then circle back with a cup of coffee and a blanket to sink in. What Magazine is it that get's me giddy like a child Christmas Morning? Why Mary Janes Farm of course.
It's a magazine filled with lovely articles on home gardening, organic cooking, crafting and so much more. But it's not just the content, it's how the pages are embellished with lovely vintage illustrations. It's just a wonderful read. And I do admit it makes me want to run out the door and buy some baby chicks to raise.

And of course I've been working on lots of art. Sadly I have no images to share of the Taj yet. I've been in alligators up to my arm pits ;) So soon I hope to spend some time snuggling up to my easel. I have however been working on Party Printables for this Spring. { Art } In The Simple Things

{Easter} A Bunny and A Painting

Hello Sweet Friends,

We have spring fever around here. My girls have peeps dancing in their heads and every store we go in makes their eye's pop with excitement. The stores are all decked out with stuffed bunnies, candy and spring dresses galore. They ooh and ah over the sweets and beg for a stuffed bunny here and there. I love the anticipation that builds wondering what little treats they'll find in their Easter basket this Easter. They had a certainly had a bounty of treats last Easter.

I designed a fun new Easter printable party favor set. This time I decided to pair the items by guest. Meaning you simply print one sheet for every one guest. The sheet has a mini note card, bag topper cupcake topper, and place card. This is mini set, just enough party printables to dress up a family Easter get together. I'm as nuts as the next girl about the brown and pink trend. SO let that be my muse.... that and the little bunnies that I love to nibble ;)

I'm also starting to work on a commissioned painting of the Taj Mahal. I'm thrilled and have the canvas already sketched out. Hopefully I can share a glimpse of how it's coming next week.
I also wanted to toss in a couple of photo collages showing a new venture a friend and I are starting. We're teaming up to put together my printable party favors and her stinkin cute vinyl embellished party favors. It's a match made in party heaven ;)

Hello!

I'm about halfway there on designing the Hippo Party Set and wanted to give you a little Look See. My friend Jessica has this cute little munchkin named Emily who will be celebrating her first birthday soon. She's a cheerful little monkey. And Emily is very fond of her pink hippo stuffed animal. She takes her bottle snuggling with it.

I also picked up the current issue of Artful Blogging. All I can say is WOW! The artist and their blogs featured are amazing. I literally wanted to jump up and paint something after flipping through only a few pages. I was mesmerized by the texture and color page after page. Eye Candy doesn't even begin to express it. I think Muse would be more fitting. A Muse for the blogger I am in between business, those few pauses I have before chasing my kids, jumping into another project, fixing dinner or getting some shut eye.

Stampington & Company have created some amazing magazines since their start, but I happen to be partial to this one.

{Birthday} Grand Slam!

Hi Friends,
I've been busy with lots of this and that. Spring is in the air. My girls and I are running around frantically looking for a shoe, rushing to gymnastics, sticking letters on science fair projects, doing laundry... doing laundry.. doing laundry... That repeat was intentional. It seems whenever I get it caught up... there's a hiccup and suddenly there's a pile!
Oh, and I'm working on a fun hippo party for a dear friend who's little one is having her first birthday party.
Then I did get that little bit of painting time... which I desperately need more of. I say need because I truly get recharged painting. It's what God created me to do. Speaking of, he's been so good to me and my family.

Bonjour!
I hope you are all well sweet Blogland friends. I've got a fresh batch of designs to share with you. Check out my fun new Marie Antoinette Party Kit. It was a hoot working on this set. I know a lot of people share my love for Marie and her fabulous dresses. Her fashions were my inspiration, along with the amazing hair she sported. "Let's Have Cake", isn't that a fun play on words and a cute way to start an invitation.

If you do your cupcakes just right and pop the Marie topper on it, it will look like the cupcake is her skirt! How fun is that. I could see having my girls and their friends decorate their cupcake Marie's skirt. What do you think? The whimsical cupcake place cards are darling too.

The set also includes this lovely little Marie Antoinette Paper Doll I designed. This is one part of the set where I really got to have fun exploring my inner fashion designer.

I've been amazed at the amount of Pin The Beak on The Owl's I've been selling for the past two weeks. This little bird has become quite popular. The cupcake toppers are one of my favorite sets. I'm always won over by anything pink and brown, so I truly enjoyed doing these.

{Marie Antoinette} Party Kit

Hello Friends,

Well there's a lot going on around our home. We started the baby steps towards changing over to a healthier lifestyle. The little one's began gymnastics classes. I began taking a class at church based on the book Bod4God. We switched the Little Debbie Snack cakes for granola and apples. And guess what, no one died with out their junk food.

We also enjoyed a fun Hollywood Themed Birthday Party with friends last weekend. The girls got decked out in feather boas and sunglasses to go to the movies. We saw Gnomeo and Juliet. It was a wonderful movie. Full of good laughs.

Hello Friends,

I had a girl friend ask me to design her little girl's party set. She wanted a focus on all things Hollywood and Glamorous. Well, it's almost complete and the package will be available soon in my shop. I have to say that I think this will be my new favorite. It has a super fun, and very unexpected activity to go along with it for the kiddos. I can almost guarantee that they haven't done this at a party before. And the cupcake toppers are sure to please any young starlet!
So here's a peek at the paper dolls that will go with this set.

One thing that will be different about this Party Package is that it is only available customized. An Old Painting & a New Project

Well I've been quite busy lately. But I wanted to share a fun new project I'm working on. Actually it only exists in my sketch book at the moment. But, it soon will be coming to life and I'll be sure to show you very soon. It's a Girl's Dinosaur Party! I can't count how many girls I've known, including myself who at one point wanted to be an archeologist. And sadly all the Dino stuff I've seen is all boy focused. Well this is going to be one stinking cute dinosaur. And she's going to be a party pleaser for sure.

As I mentioned I've been busy. And me being busy means no time for painting. I have dry spells where I may not paint for a year... or a month... or something along those lines. And I've had one of those long dry spells. Well the dry spell has ended and I can't wait to get back to work on my church painting. And I've got a zillion paintings in my head ready to pop out on to a canvas or piece of water color paper. Wouldn't you know that feeling hits when I'm swamped. No complaints here though. Dry spells stink. I'm happy it's passed for now. But it is very much a part of the creative process. The refilling of the creative tank. Sometimes it only takes a good movie to refill it, sometimes a trip or hearing from an old friend. My dry spell was wiped away by the crisp winter air and lots of fun in the snow with the kids. Oh, and Netflix :)

So here's an oldy but goody until I get around to putting up my dinosaur girl party set and my new paintings that Lor d willing I can start working on this weekend.

{Decorating} Frugal Walls

I don't like to spend an arm and a leg on framed art. And I'm an an artist! I like to find ways to get that fabulously matted art look, for a few dollars rather than the big bucks.
For example I love having my walls reflect the season. There's nothing more precious than an antique print of St. Nicholas on a beautifully patterned mat hanging above a plate of fresh cookies. So how does this frugal girl get the look?

Public Domain Art, an amazing resource that has endless uses. You can simply go to Wikipedia Public Domain Image page. It has categorized lists of different types of Public Domain Art. A few of my favorite public domain art resources are Karen Whimsy's Public Domain Images and http://www.yestercards.com/.

So, here's a little tutorial on how I achieve this look:

The first thing I do is search the public domain art sites for art that would look good for the theme or holiday I'm decorating for.
Next you print the image. Be sure to print it at a size that will allow plenty of space to show off your fabulous mat!
Next you pick your favorite scrap book paper that picks up accent colors from your printed picture. Something that compliments the piece of art. Cut the crap book paper ti fit the frame and trim the image to remove any signs of the printer margins.
Your final step is to adhere the image to the center of the scrap book. Once dry place in the frame. No worries friends, yes frames can be high. But if you're a smart frugal cookie, you know about Dollar Tree, or Dollar General. Or any number of other great Dollar stores, which almost all carry great picture frames in a variety of sizes.

Hi Friends!
It's a winter wonderland here in Georgia. Beautiful snow covered hills sprinkled with kids sledding in laundry baskets. "What's that", you say. Yep, here we have to improvise with garbage can lids, laundry baskets and even pizza pans(God rest it's soul).

Would Marie Antoinette have hiked up her skirts and bustle to go gliding down a hill? I like to think so. If only you could see the image in my head.

My girls and I just settled in to enjoy the rare snow flakes that are dusting the south tonight. It's been an unusual winter already. Lots of chilly days.

Hi Friends,
I hope you all are having a great New Year. The Ozee house has been busy playing our new Wii and having lots of family fun. Did I mention I killed my poor kids Sea Monkeys? It's a long story. Let's just say, read the directions before you feed the little boogers ;)

So I've been busy creating some fun items to celebrate Valentine's Day with. First out of my shop, a good old fashioned Valentine Card Set. Full of fun vintage cherubs, keys and sheet music. You can purchase it here. The vintage imges came from a variety of sources including 1st floor flat freebies, karens whimsy, and vintage catnip.

Next up will be the party kits with a fun French twist. That should be in my shop by this weekend. So long for now sweet friends.

{Christmas} Deck the Halls

Hi Sweet Friends,
I've been crazy busy these days. Work, Christmas Plays, and all the normal life stuff. But I wanted to take a moment to share a little peek into our home. We love decking the halls!

This antique Santa cup was my mothers.

I created the paintings above the buffet a few years ago. They have my girls names on the list to Santa. The buffet was my Great Grandmother Harmon's.

This Santa figurine was my grandmothers. Our tree is filled with ornaments that were gifts or made by myself, my girls, my mother and my grandmother.

And that beautiful wreath was made especially for me by a dear friend.

I've been busy planning Thursday's meal, hosting bible study at our home, working on an exciting project for Coca-Cola that involves a certain Square in New York, and of course just being a Mom. Of course the last is my favorite thing!

{Birthday} Roxy's Paris Party

Hi Friends,
My oldest turned 10 today. She chose a very special present this year. A tween's dream come true, a Parisian Bedroom. I'll share pictures of the room soon, but today I wanted to show off her party decor.

We matched the pink to the color of her new pinker than pink walls. The invitations and all the other party favors featured bits of French here and there. What party would be complete with out customized water bottle labels?

We even had our own little Eiffel Tower atop the cup cake stand.
For the pictures above the Desert buffet I simply found public domain images online and then printed them in black and white. Add a couple of Dollar Tree $1.00 picture frames and... magnifique!

The cupcakes were made from boxed cake mix plus some snappy food color work. And the peppermint Malted Milk Balls added the little pink speckles I needed.

I also designed a Pin The Tail on The Poodle for the younger crowds.

Printing prices very depending on where you live, but for me to print all the stuff you see here, plus some, most of which was on card stock, cost only $13.00 at my local print shop. In my opinion, that's a deal! Just add some swank square black paper plates from Target or Wal-Mart and you're done.

I've been pulling together a few pieces of art for a last minute art show this morning. While I was rummaging through old art an overwhelming urge to create a Silhouette hit me. That combined with the Halloween season we're upon made for a fun little pen and ink with a wash of orange watercolor.

My starting point was a photo of my oldest on her 6th birthday. I can hardly believe she's about to turn 10!

{Halloween} Creative Decorating

What's the most creative decoration you've made for Halloween?

I love putting on Halloween Town on the TV and getting creative with the kids this time of year. And I've been known to get a little holiday nuts at the office with Photoshop. Victorian images and pumpkins, need I say more? It screamed... "off with their heads!" . My mother's response was to come over less frequently. She was a little chicken with those pumpkin heads frames over my buffet. I have no idea why.

I'm partial to grabbing a slab of air dry clay and shaping it into whatever ghost, ghoul or pumpkin is fluttering in my manic brain.

The year I found one of my favorite folk artist, Catherine Holman, I was so inspired by her work I sat down and painted a haunted version of a house.

I had fun making an artist trading card with an image of my great grandmother. I turned her into a witch. My mother of course told me that Grandma Harmon was going to haunt me for that.

So all these past projects made me wonder, what do other people do to feather their nest around this time of year? I went nuts over a super cool pumpkin tutorial I found at Smilemonsters blog. This lady went to town with a drier vent, paint and primer. Added some twigs and leaves and in the end was the proud owner of an amazing pumpkin! I give her two thumbs up.... and two toes!

{A Candy Shop} Disney World

The candy shops on Maine Street and at Down Town Disney are a must see. We always take a peek at the new creative treats that line the display cases. Here are a few of the eye popping goodies we saw on vacation.

I know you've seen this already but, they are so stinkin cute I had to post it again.

These cupcakes were a treat from our server at one of the Disney restaurants since we were celebrating our anniversary. We can never get away the actual week of our anniversary, so when we're down a few weeks latter we get our anniversary buttons and smooch! The kids squeal "gross"!

All About the Cupcakes

Lately it's been all about the cupcakes. And this brought to mind a painting I did for my oldest daughter a few years ago. This project combines a few things that I love. Those are recycling old furniture into art, painting and using multiple art mediums.

So the Cupcake is actually painted on a piece of an old cabinet that was primed with a little gesso. Once I had the cabinet door primed I painted my cupcake. While the acrylic paint was still wet I sprinkled a little white clear glitter over it. To top my cupcakes I went with a fun variety of buttons that I simply attached with craft glue.

So my sweet cousin Heather has this fabulous blog all about her adventures in baking. She's super creative. So when she mentioned wanting an animation of a dancing cupcake my head almost exploded :)
I was off on an adventure of my own to try my hand at stop animation using Adobe Flash. I have to say... I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

Martha's Done It Again!

Would you ladies look at this fun idea Martha Stewart had for a baby shower cake. And really this would be great for a first or second birthday two. Just do colors more primary or bolder pinks and greens.

A weekend of School Shopping and Painting

Well, here in Henry County, GA the kids start school August 2nd. So we had to take care of getting the girls all dolled up for the new year. We still need to get those pesky supplies...

And here's where I am with my painting. As you can see, I'm just beginning work on the steeple. And I'm rather excited about starting my first rag garland. I hope to have it ready to put up with my Fall/Halloween decor in a few weeks.

My etsy shop will soon have a New Halloween collection up too.

Birthday Bliss and A Little Trip

The Mermaid party was a blast. My lovely little mermaid enjoyed the party and her guest. And... mommy enjoyed seeing every one checking out the decorations!

Spiraling though the mountains of Tennessee are amazing views and areas to perch and take it all in.

The Natural Arch is one of the wonderful sights to see in the Big South Fork area of Kentucky.

The Cumberland Falls in Kentucky. Called the Niagara of the south, these falls are approximately 150 ft wide and 67 ft high. My grandparents spent their honey moon at the falls.

The lovely DuPont Lodge at Cumberland Falls. It was an amazing place.

The baby in the above picture is my great grandmother in the arms of her half Cherokee mother. Violace Parker married Webster Choate. She is about to celebrate her 95th Birthday.

It's Almost Party Time

My little Mermaid
is so excited about her party this Saturday. She's going to have a giant inflatable slip in slide, which is a huge party pleaser every year. The adults also enjoy racing down the slip in slide! Cupcakes and Candy Buffet for all the sticky goodness she and her friends can stand. And I can't leave out a few rounds of Pin The Tail on The Mermaid!
So I've been busy cutting out mermaid tails, punching cupcake toppers and all the other fun things that go along with preparing for the little doll's party.

{ marshmallow fondant } Part 2

Hi Sweet Friends,
Here's what I was doing today! Thanks to that fab recipe from Cake Journal I had a great road map to these cute little treats that soon will top our cupcakes. The party is going to be mermaid themed so we'll be using the cupcake topper from my shop, with a sweet little shell sitting at the base of the stick. here are pictures of the process.

P.S. Thanks to one of my very best friends Tiffany for the great conch shell sculpting she did while I whipped out the clam shells. And to my other very best friend Pam for first introducing me to the fantastic yummy possibilities of MMF

Smoothie Heaven

I have been trying to be on a health kick lately... I do say trying ladies. I am human after all. So I started making a home grown recipe for a morning smoothie.

Hazelnut Heaven Smoothie

about 3 large coffee mugs full of Ice
2 tsp instant coffee
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp hazelnut powdered creamer
1 cup soy milk
1 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup water

Blend it all and you have enough for a family of four!
My kids love it too.... of course they liked coffee in their sippy cups too though :)

Marshmallow Fondant Recipe by Cake Journal

A friend created her own fondant for her lovely pink and brown cake recently and it was a hit! I was intrigued and have visions of pink MMF seashells atop Isabel's cupcakes at her mermaid party.
So, I began a search for the recipe and hit the jack pot! I found a great website that is absolutely adorable. And she has some amazing tutorials, and some really cool "How To" items that you can buy. The fantastic find... cakejournal.com Louise is the talent behind the amazing site.

Anyways, here's the MMF recipe from Louise's tutorials and an image from her site showing the fondant. I can't wait to share pictures of my creations with her fabulous recipe.

Ice Cream Parlor Party Memories

One of my favorite birthday parties we've had for Roxy was her
Ice Cream Parlor Party.
It was a blast to watch the girls eyes bulge as they look at the treats that were spread before them on her Ice Cream Sunday Buffet. Sparkling pink sugar crystals, a variety of syrups, sprinkles and brownies galore. These girls were happy campers. The night continued with a marathon of favorite movies and popcorn , sleeping bags, singing to the latest Hannah Montana songs.
And mom's this was a very low budget party compared to how nutty things can get on prices of pinatas, bounce houses, skating rinks and pizza party destinations. So, don't stress Momma! Instead introduce them the Ice Cream Parlor Party Sleep over.

I'm a firm believer in keeping the kids reading during the summer. We take a trip to the library each weekend to get a fresh stack of books. I'm surprised at how many people don't take advantage of what our libraries have to offer. They have great activities and crafts through out the summer season, as well as DVDs and other great media. One of the best ways to make an occasion memorable is by having a theme customized to the theme. For instance say my daughter Hilary was graduating from high school. Well of course she and her friends would love a grad party that had little cap and gown type decor on her cake or cupcakes. But imagine the response from party goers when they saw cupcake toppers that featured the guest of honor's head with a graduation cap and school colors! As a designer and illustrator I know that my abilities to create come from a gift that my maker blessed me with. I know that when a difficult project comes along Prayer really does lead to amazing ideas. And on this note I'd like to share No More Mondays by Dan Miller, a book full of inspiration and guidance for those wanting a change or who's been laid off and needs a new direction. Change can be simply wanting to move up the food chain at your office... or it can be a total "pack up the kids we're moving to the islands to teach snorkeling" kind of change.

Dan was raised Mennonite and teaches that we all have God given talents and passions. As it states on Dan's website, he believes that a clear sense of direction can help us become all that God designed us to be.
